Yes, at this very day there is a slew of netbooks available both online and at retailers from Wal-Mart to the more specialized Futureshop and Best Buy. Yes, there are many more companies coming out into the scene with their sub-laptop solutions. Yet, one trend remains. A generation of netbooks starts off at the $350 range and goes well up into the $400-$500 range, goes down to below $300 at online stores and on web sites like eBay and Kijiji, and then the entire cycle repeats itself. What if you already have a main laptop or desktop computer and need a second ultra portable computer at a lower price? Let’s face it- a $400-$500 netbook is a pretty bad deal when you can easily buy a full laptop already in that price range. You know that netbooks are small, you know you need them for basic things on the go, and you want the smaller size and weight with a consequently longer battery life- and you know that what you’re asking for should be cheap and not a cent more.

After months of testing in various settings and situations, I can safely say that the Acer Aspire One AOA-110 series is the reigning champion here. The one I have personally tested came with Windows XP, an 8GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and an 8GB expansion card (SD). I suggest using Google for further technical specs, as I am going to focus on what this crouching tiger does, not what makes it tick. Two things launched this particular series right to the top:
-The price, running as low as CAD $275 or US $236 at Canada Computers, with deals to be made daily on ebay and Kijiji. Initial web searches reveal they have been sold out for now at major online retailers such as Amazon.
-Zflashpoint, a freeware program for the SSD netbooks, speeds up the response time of SSD drives so much that they become much faster, making the experience of using them even more streamlined and enjoyable. My boot-up times into Windows XP are a fraction of what they used to be, installing files and running online and local videos have been significantly improved, games are running smoother, and multitasking became more responsive. You can get more information about zflashpoint, as well as download it, on http://zflashpoint.blogspot.com/.

With that being said, this particular netbook will help you save a bundle, and here’s what you get:
-The 8.9 inch screen is larger than many portable DVD player screens, not to mention the audio/video portable players such as Iphone and Ipod Touch, practically all of the products from the Archos line-up, the Samsung P2 and more.
-Wi-Fi allows you to use this small, light-weight netbook to comfortably view and use Google Desktop, Youtube, Facebook, Picasa and many other online services, and the screen is indeed Large Enough even for extended reading. Remember, people read entire books on the go from devices with even smaller screens such as the Amazon Kindle or the new book reader by Sony.
-You can run all of your favourite emulators, most casual games such as the notable World of Goo.
-The webcam isn’t high resolution but it can adjust to most light levels fairly quickly after Zflashpoint has been installed, making this netbook a perfect little Skype station or MSN Live video chat center, thanks to the decent built in microphone.
-The keyboard is surprisingly durable even when exposed to daily duress and harassment by people like myself with lots to type, and so little time to do it. I have mid-size man hands and typing on the Acer Aspire One took little bit of time getting used to.

-You got yourself enough USB ports to use it as a charging station for your gadgets, cell phones and so on. It also has an additional SD card slot so you can buy some cheap High Capacity SD cards and have enough space for the things you know you really, absolutely need with you at all times.

Sure, the newer model has a 10.1 inch screen and an apparently slightly better webcam, but that puts it back up at CAD $400 (Best Buy) for the benefits that are negligible in the face of the need for the netbooks, a lighter laptop class, to stay well below laptops in pricing and value as well. That is exactly what the Acer Aspire One AOA-110 series does, and will continue to do for quite some time.

Introduction

A bit about me and what my goals are with this particular blog.

I have been highly interested in technology since I was a kid. I have used, tested, followed reviews of computers, laptops, mp3 players, cell phones and all sorts of gadgets. My friends tell me that every time I talk about a product such as the latest smartphone, I am more convincing, passionate and infectious than most Best Buy salespeople they’ve heard so far. I am also a recent university grad and my program has prepared me to take whatever I like or find important and research and analyze it with particular goals in mind.

Here is where my passion comes in. I know what it’s like to be a recent grad in his 20′s, trying to pay off student loans, monthly bills and still want laptops, cell phones and so on. This blog will be a guide on how to get not necessarily the latest, but certainly the best and most feature packed pieces of technology out there and save money. That’s right, I want to help you SAVE MONEY by identifying what products out there will offer you exactly what you need in a lean, CHEAPER package, without all the extra fat. I do not work for a review website, I am not sponsored by any major company to advertise and review whatever products they choose with whatever outcome they choose. I am motivated by finding a perfect combination between what you dream about having and what you absolutely need- at home, on the go, or both.

Here are some of the many things you will be able to find in my blog posts:

-This blog is for anyone trying to save money, and will have information on value and prices for the entire North America, meaning it’s not just for Canadians.
-Price comparisons between new and used of the same items, e.g. Best Buy VS eBay.
-Comparisons between the item that’s a good deal VS the expensive counterpart which often tends to show there isn’t enough difference to warrant breaking your bank.
-Tech products which seems expensive at first look, but are actually the perfect all-in-one devices for your situation, thus saving you a bundle.
-How well the mentioned tech products function in real life.

And much more.

Yes you can!

When you’re working on getting somewhere in life and your budget is tight, you don’t want to make a mistake and break your bank on a shiny piece of technology that’ll bring you a lot of headache once the initial hype is gone. In order to truly identify what you NEED and DON’T NEED, you need to ask yourself some serious questions, and I can help point you in a right direction that will definitely help.
